While I am not totally convinced of this whole 7 pounds calculation ( I think 7 pounds might be a little high, possibly correct for the Gwen Stefanis among us though!) it is still frightening and plain icky to think that you could be eating any lead at all on a daily basis!
The worst part of all, is that because lipsticks are not technically a "food" there are limited testing and disclosure requirements in place for the companies who make them and put the lead in them. Until someone dies of lead poisoning - which can be directly blamed on lippy - this is not likely to change.
The good news is that you can now purchase natural lipstick! Hooray! Even natural lippy that is made in New Zealand by completely natural, nice, EDIBLE ingredients, which are all kindly printed on the label in English.
I know what you're thinking, I too thought the same thing "Boring! Natural lipsticks only come in dull colours, they don't stay on and they smell funny." I can wholeheartedly say that this is not true. I decided to give a few natural lipsticks a go to see how they performed.
Fragrance wise, it was good. It smelled slightly of essential oils but in a nice natural way. Not too overpowering. There is nothing worse than sticky lipstick!
So there you have it! Natural lippy does not have to be dull. Give it a whirl I say! I am truly converted.
