Jennifer Laurence is just perfect as heroine Katniss Everdeen. She embodies the character I imagined perfectly. When I saw the first movie, I couldn't get over how well it had been transferred from book to screen. I loved the details, like how rugged she was pre-games. All dirt and grime under her nails. Then scrubbed clean for the games. And I mean, doesn't everyone love a makeover scene - a la Pretty Woman?
The Hunger Games was good but I think Catching fire was better!
After winning the 75th Hunger Games, Catniss returns to district 12 looking more polished than she used to. She is wiser but her nerve is gone. After her and Peeta defied the capital in their faux act of love, the other districts have started to revolt. When Pita, Katniss and Haymitch take to the train on the traditional victor's tour, the brewing revolution becomes even more apparent.
The Capital, who know Katniss is to blame for this new hope amongst the districts, concoct the 3rd Quarter Quell (a traditional twist on the games every 25 years) to silence Katniss once and for all. Katniss and Peeta find themselves back in the game arena, both desperate to save each others lives.
New characters emerge which liven the story. Excellent performances from Jena Malone and Sam Claflin, who were both excellently cast.
It is quite a long film but it didn't feel like it! I was intrigued right up to the final frame. The worst part is that now we have to wait so long for the next film!
