"For a change, lady luck seemed to be smiling on me. Then again, maybe the fickle wench was just lulling me into a false sense of security while she reached for a rock."
- Timothy Zahn
Luck is a funny thing. Sometimes I believe in it. Sometimes I don't. Sometimes I have felt lucky and other times I haven't. And then it always seems that life has its own plan anyway. I have been bitterly disappointed at times only to find out later that if I had got what I wanted then I wouldn't have ended up with some of the most beautiful blessings in my life. One of my favourite quotes of all time is: "Remember sometimes not getting what you wind is a wonderful stroke of luck."
But it is annoying when you don't get what you want. It is frustrating - especially when you have worked your ass off to get it. Supposedly, Lady Luck grants the person who pleases her the most the gift of luck. So what are you supposed to do to please her? What's her favourite kind of chocolate? Does she enjoy red or white wine? If I can't even find her, how am I supposed to give her the presents?
Yoohoo! Lady Luck! Where are you? I've got something for you. Does it please you? Yes? Good. Now, can I please have my lotto ticket winnings?
Wait, I have had a thought! What if Lady Luck is just lucky herself? She might not provide luck. She might BE lucky. Lady Luck has children and no sleepless nights. Lady Luck has thighs and no cellulite. Lady Luck goes to the petrol station and men magically come out to fill up her car. Lady Luck never gets things stuck in her teeth. Lady Luck never misses a bus or gets ladders in her stockings. When Lady Luck cries, she doesn't look ugly. Where Lady Luck goes, good luck follows.
I want to BE Lady Luck. Yeah!
Good luck befriend thee, Son; for at thy birth The fairy ladies danced upon the hearth.
- John Milton
Lady Luck's maiden name was Miss Fortune.
- Elizabeth Bibesco
People always call it good luck when you've acted more sensibly than they have.
- Anne Tyler
