So of course I have been watching 'The Face Australia' on Channel Four. It has everything a good modeling show needs - catty mentors, hungry young women and prizes for the hungry young women. There are three judges (Naomi Campbell, Nicole Trunfio and Cheyenne Tozzi) and they each have four models who they mentor and coach/criticise how to become good models. They say things to the girls like "Shut your mouth," and "Don't lift up the dress," and "I'm not feeling it."
They are great coaches really. Except for Nicole because she has nobody left on her team (note - may not be Nicole's fault. May be Naomi's.)
So, the point is that I have been enjoying the show innocently until recently this shit got dangerous. I was lying on my couch eating chocolate watching the models when their challenge came up. They had to wear wedding gowns in a catwalk show. Easy, right? No, no, no, no, no, no, no! The girls were given dresses far too long for them and forced to walk up and down steep stairs in fricken high heels. And that is when it hit me. They wanted them to fall! These poor, hungry children were about to become the victims of manslaughter! The shows producers were trying to MURDER them. They wanted good TV so bad, they were happy enough to put young girls in danger and the young girls had no choice but to do it. Otherwise what would Naomi say? What would Naomi do? She might eat them for her breakfast the next day (she's pretty scary).
I watched the challenge peeking out from behind my hands. It was like some twisted horror film. Would they fall? Would they survive the fall? Would they look beautiful as they fell - more importantly would they look thin as they fell??
It was all very distressing. You can see it here on Episode 5. The attempted murder starts at about 27.51 min.
Luckily, none of them fell and died so I could go back to my sweet, little life.
But… I felt different somehow……like I had a weird feeling in my tummy. Like what I had seen wasn't quite right.
