It was a fun time. For one, everyone was watching the awards so there was minimal milling required. For once at an event we could both just sit and relax. That was until I got a little drunk on the excitment and claimed my ability to fast clap as a 'talent'. Though it did get us moved up to the fancy seats so it has gotta be a little impressive, right?
The evening's hosts were great, and though you'd think that interrupting the awards to play games and give out prizes would be a bit annoying, it wasn't. It actually made the evening! The dance-off contest was one of the highlights.
The awards themselves? Well what can I say. When we walked into the cinema, Miley was already on the screen walking the red carpet and talking about how she was gonna do one better than Britney Spears' and Madonna's pash a few years back, so we already knew we were in for a 'treat'. It didn't really come as a huge surprise then when she emerged from a teddy bear with her large white tongue flapping about. In fact none of what Miley did was surprising, that is not what bothered me. It was EMBARRASSING. It was so blatantly attention seeking that I just felt like hiding under my seat. Argh! The crotch grabbing! Butt slapping! All of it! Just so fake and premeditated. Even the grinding of Robin Thicke (the chauvinist dick) was just overkill. I mean come on. Do something we don't expect. Maybe if she had kept her tongue in her mouth it would have helped. Or maybe if she had more of a statement to make other than just to be a skank for attention. Oh Miley, you're better than that.
Lady Gaga, on the other hand, did a good job. I loved her performance. She reminds me of a cross between Madonna and Marilyn Manson with a dash of Warhol and a sprinkling of Salvador Dali for good measure. What I admired or perhaps envied is the fact that after her performance ended with her dressed as a sea lady in a clam shell bra and thong, she chose to remain in this outfit for the rest of the night. Butt exposed. I love her body confidence.
We had heaps of fun! All thanks to Pepsi NZ and Pepsi Backroom!
Oh and we weren't paid to say this, we actually just had a really great time!
