It all started at the Pepsi MTV movie night at Reading Cinema when Kimberley Crossman called out into her microphone:
"Is there anyone in the audience who has a talent?"
Lisette's hand shot up.
"Put your hand down," I hissed at her. "You don't have any talents"
And I should know! I have been with her to a zillion parties and she has never ever pulled out a party trick.
Kimberley came over to us as I shrank further down in my seat. If she started singing, I was leaving.
"What's your talent?"
"I'm a really fast clapper."
I couldn't stop laughing.
"No you're not," I yelled up at her.
"Yes I am," she snapped down at me.
"We're really scraping the bottom of the barrel in this talent quest," said Kimberley.
But then something amazing happened. Lisette stretched. She warmed up and then..... she started clapping -really fucking fast. She clapped so fast even Kimberley said:
"Wow, you are a really fast clapper."
When Lisette sat down she turned to me smugly and said, "See, I told you I could clap fast."
I had to agree.
But then I got mad.
"How could you keep this from me?" I asked
"I didn't realise it was a talent."
"No, I just thought everyone could clap that fast."
Well, if fast clapping is not a trait that you would want in a bestie then I don't know what is.
