I am here to present the evidence that love destroys hopeless romantics like Taylor Swift and many other fools.
They are young. They see each other across a green campus. They lock eyes. He is a dark haired, sexy boy.
Taylor has a dreamy look about her as she sings. It's hard though because Taylor's daddy doesn't want them to be together. She wears a white dress. He is Romeo. She is Juliet.
They smile when they see each other secretly in the garden. But then, she hasn't seen him for a bit. Where is he? Oh it's OK. He's coming. He's running through the field. She runs to meet him.
He asks her to marry him and they overcome all obstacles. "This love is difficult but it's real."
It's a real love story.
Then we move to Exhibit B: Blank Space
Taylor is wearing black.
She sees a sexy, brown haired boy.
"Oh my God. Look at that face. You look like my next mistake." (You'll notice a bit of a change here from Exhibit A). But she dives in anyway - as all hopeless romantics do. They go for strident walks with their many black dogs. She paints pictures of him. They ride horses. They run around the garden and ride bikes through the house. He is the king. She is the queen.
Then, Exhibit B moves towards reality. He is texting another girl. They are fighting. She slashes the painting of him. She cuts up his shirts. His cell phone is dropped in the fountain. She smashes up his fancy car with a golf club. He drives away never to return.
As the years have passed, Taylor Swift has grown up. I have been to see her in concert and no one in my house is permitted to say a bad word about her. I love her. I too am guilty of ridiculous ideas about love. For a long time, I was like Taylor. I believed in true love and romance. Everything I learnt about love I learnt from American movies. Then life hit me like a big sack of shit. People lie, cheat and forever really means "for a little while."
In conclusion, these two items show how love destroys a hopeless romantic. So young girls beware. All men are pigs.
But….wait there's more. I like Taylor better now. She's stronger, less vulnerable. And she's confident enough to make fun of herself. And she is proof that, while love may destroy you, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
