Thirty! Flirty! And Thriving!
For the last few years I have dreaded my birthday. I know, Isn't that sad? I'm not quite sure why it was. Perhaps something similar to the New Years Eve affliction, where the pressure to 'have a good time' ruins the fun for everyone. "Am I having fun?" "Is this cool enough?" "Is this the best party?" "Omg what if I'm not having fun at New Years countdown?!" "What if I have no one to kiss!" Perhaps it was something to do with becoming a Mother four years ago. That does seam to make your birthday a little less yours. Because regardless of presents and cake, you still are 'Mummy' and still have to look after two little 'Snausages' and help them find their shoes, dress them, whipe bums etc. Last year on my birthday my baby boy was only one week old! I was knee deep in poop and breast milk. So it was almost easier to just pretend it wasn't my birthday than get disappointed about the lack of cake and pink champagne.
In other years 'The love of my life' has been known to be a little 'casual' about birthdays. It's not his fault. It's just how his family are with birthdays. Don't get me wrong he is always very sweet on my birthday and
makes me cups of tea, lets me sleep in etc. But sometimes presents and other specialties get left out of the equation. Previously I have always shrugged it off, being mature about it and said 'That's okay honey, I don't mind'. But you know what? I was lying! I want gifts! (Who doesn't?) I want a fuss! I want a special day for MEEE! (See, I'm still 16.) So you know what? I made it happen myself!
Instead of spending my 30th Birthday crying in bed and mourning my wasted youth, I decided this year would be different. I decided this year my birthday would be spectacular. Why? Because I was going to make my birthday fabulous for myself! I decided not to be a martyr this year. I would go by the old motto "If you want something done right, do it yourself." I baked myself a cake. I booked myself a two hour massage for the morning. I organised His parents to have our boys for the afternoon so we could go on a date. I bought myself a bottle of pink bubbly for the occasion! I even told Him what gift to get me. If you don't ask you don't get, right?
So, do you know what happened? I HAD THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER! The massage was amazing. In two hours, (almost) every part of my body was massaged to a pulp of goo. The best part was the foot massage, followed closely by the abdominal massage. Sounds strange I know. But if like me you hold your stress in your abdomen then this is the massage for you! I got home to a pancake lunch and....GIFTS! After a glass of bubbles, me and the Beau went off for a romantic walk on the beach. We finished the day off with a family dinner and CAKE! It really was a fantastic day.
It just goes to show that you really are in charge of your life. If you want something to go a certain way you can make it happen for yourself. I had such a good birthday I actually can't wait to turn 31! NO MORE BAHUMBUG BIRTHDAYS FOR ME!
