“Our findings suggest the importance of socialized gender roles for sexual frequency in heterosexual marriage,” said lead author Sabino Kornrich, a junior researcher at the Center for Advanced Studies at the Juan March Institute in Madrid. “Couples in which men participate more in housework typically done by women report having sex less frequently. Similarly, couples in which men participate more in traditionally masculine tasks—such as yard work, paying bills, and auto maintenance—report higher sexual frequency.”
The articles about this study really pissed me off. Not because of the study itself but because of the way the media pounced on it. Having grown up in the 90's, I still can't believe how sexist the world is. I'd love to see the figures, but apparently, the amount of bonks per couple differ in about one bonk a month between the households where men do more 'womanly' chores and the ones where men mow the lawns etc. One extra bonk a month isn't that much but 'The Daily Mail' had a headline that read "Husbands who don't do wives chores get 20 times more sex per year" which is rubbish and the implication is that only the husbands are missing out - the poor, poor husbands who have to do jobs and never get laid because of course women don't like sex.
These were the findings:
Husbands who help in the house have sex less often then those who do very little.
Husbands performed on average about one-fifth of female chores and about half of male chores.
Wives helped out with men's chores more often than husbands helped with female tasks.
Couples reported having sex an average of five times a month.
Where the wife did most of the female chores, couples reported having sex about 1.6 times more a month than if their husbands did them.
Well, I don't know about you but nothing gets me in the mood more than a man doing dishes!
