Perhaps it is because I am secretly still a child that I love Halloween so much. But honestly, who can dislike a festivity that involves candy, dressing up spooky, carving pumpkins and decorating your house? Oh and lets not forget watching scary movies! I mean really? Why would you turn down a holiday like that?
Some people do not agree with Halloween or at least the Trick-O-Treating part, because they believe it is akin to begging. Well, get this, if you embrace the tradition, buy candy and GIVE it to children willingly, even decorate your house a little to welcome them, then no one is begging! Honestly! For a country of suicidal drunks, who are obsessed with a sport where large men chase a ball around a paddock, you'd think we'd be a little more eager for a day of frolicsome fun, no?
So come on Kiwis! Put down that rugby ball and have a night off the booze and get into the Halloween spirit!
This year my boys have been in Halloween garb all week. My eldest is a vampire and the baby is his little bat sidekick. Yep, CUTE! My eldest son is also obsessed with carving pumpkins. He had us up and carving the other morning before 7am. Normally I'd be a tad pissy about being forced to be up so early. But hell no! Not on Halloween. I had only adoration for my son's dedication to the coolest holiday ever. That's one thing I am proud to pass on to my kids.
