Mariana and I write poems. We write lots of poems. You could say we were born with verse in our veins. So it seems only fitting that we should share with you our poetry prowess. For the next 30 days you will be in for a treat. A treat in the form of one new poem per day! We'll be taking turns, starting with a poem from Mariana below!
And if you have a theme in mind to inspire one of our poems just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'd be happy to oblige! We'll even give you a shout out.
Enjoy fellow word-smiths!
I think of the story you told me about the Tui
The one that didn’t know you were watching.
I told you the Tui held the mark of the coward.
And you looked at me…
Because what do you know of Cowards?
If I could, my sweet, I would wrap you up in the silk of beauty.
Let you taste only love
Let you know only joy.
I cannot bear your precious heart to be torn in sadness
I cannot cope with your body knowing any pain
I wouldn’t let you know
Let you know
My sweet I would kiss your eyes to hide them
From the rain
But the world is full of cowards
And the world is full of shame
The world is full of mongrels
That will tease you for your pain
The world is full of heart ache
And lover’s tricky games.
My sweet I cannot keep you, walking in the rain
With your pink umbrella
To protect you from the pain
But I will always hold you
And I will always know your name
The one that I have called you
When you never knew the same.
